Ai-Kon 2008
Starts on Friday, July 25 at 3:00pm.

http://www.ai-kon.org/

Event: Ai-Kon 2008
What: Exhibit
Host: Ai-Kon
When: Friday, July 25 at 3:00pm
Where: Winnipeg Convention Centre

Every year Winnipeg has an anime convention called Ai-Kon, it's held in the convention centre and goes over a weekend from Friday to Sunday. They have movies, toys, manga, and god knows what else available to buy there. There is also local anime artists who sell prints and artwork there including at least one of our own members.

Often there are lots of people dressed up, this is fun to see but sometimes smelly or weird.
There's a charge to attend and it changes depending on how long you wait.

Tickets for Ai-Kon 2008 will go on sale at 10:00am on April 1, 2008 and will be available through Ticketmaster.

Weekend Passes
April 1st - April 30th $29.00
May 1st - June 30th $34.00
July 1st - Convention Day $39.00

Daily Passes
Friday, July 25th $19.00
Saturday, July 26th $27.00
Sunday, July 27th $19.00

Further discounts are applied to children under the age of 8, who get in free when accompanied with a paying adult. When purchasing a day pass at the convention, keep in mind that once it has been ripped, it cannot be upgraded to a weekend pass.

Ai-kon Weekend Passes have gone on sale this month!

They're $29.00 but only for this month, so if you'd like to attend, I suggest getting your pass now. If you don't want to pay the convenience fee from buying them on Ticketmaster's website, then it's best to drive to your local Ticketmaster outlet. The closest one in the South St.Vital area is JOGO Canda on Meadowood in that strip mall where McDermid Lumber is. There's also the Winnipeg Convention Center, MTS Center and pretty much any nerdy comic or board gaming store in the city. I think. Just go to the Ticketmaster site and check for locations in your area. :)

Like is says in Healthcare's first post, Saturday Day Passes are $27.00 at the event, so in my opinion, it's best to just get your weekend pass now for the extra $2 because it's not that much more expensive, plus if you eventually decide you want to be there for another day, you don't have to spend extra money at the last minute!

Everybody who likes Anime or Gaming should go! it's fun, there's lots of panels and events, a dealers' room with lots of merchandise at discounted, convention prices with no tax!! It's pretty sweet, you just can't return an item if you don't like it later.

Also, there will be special guests at this year's Ai-kon. They've announced the first two, but they will be announcing more later!

I copy/pasted the announcement from the Ai-kon Forums.
"Johnny Yong Bosch

Johnny Yong Bosch is best known for his role as Adam Park (Black Ranger) in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, while notable voice-acting roles include Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach, Vash the Stampede in Trigun, Lelouch Lamperouge in Code Geass, Renton Thurston in Eureka Seven, Yuji "Saku" Sakurai in Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad, and most recently as Nero in Capcom's Devil May Cry 4 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Bosch's latest live-action film, Broken Path, will also be shown at Ai-Kon 2008.

Laura Bailey

Laura Bailey currently serves as the voice of Shin, the five-year-old, foul-mouthed main character of Shin Chan, currently airing as part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block. Bailey's other notable voice-acting roles include Lust in Fullmetal Alchemist, Tohru Honda in Fruits Basket, Sana Kurata in Kodocha, Kid Trunks/ Kid Dende in Dragonball Z, Henrietta in Gunslinger Girl, and Rayne in Bloodrayne 1 and 2 for the PS2, Xbox and PC. More information is available on her web site http://www.lizardbee.com.

However, this is not the end of them... I am currently in negotiations with a couple more VA's! Keep your eyes peeled on this spot to see who else will be coming to Ai-kon 2008!"

It'll be great, so everyone get your weekend passes!!
